Graveside funeral services for Barbara Burns, 79, of Bethany, Louisiana will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 18, 2025, at the Panola Mt. Zion Cemetery with Linda Lawless officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4-6:00 p.m. Friday at Hawthorn Funeral Home.
Barbara Maude Burns was born March 1, 1946, in Bethany, Texas. She passed this life October 12, 2025, in Longview, Texas. Barbara was one of eight children born to the marriage of Stella Beulah Jackson and Ernest Lee Burns, Sr. She was raised and schooled in Bethany, graduated with the Elysian Fields High School Class of 1964 and attended business college.
Barbara would spend her career in financial investments working for T. Criag Lewis until her retirement. She was a lifetime member of the Bethany Baptist Church, volunteered as Secretary for the DeBerry Fire Department and was an active member of the Republican Party. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ernest Burns Jr., and Willie Burns; sisters, Jean Oliver, Mae Byrd, Dot Futrell and Kay Rogers-Crouch and her beloved son, David Valenzuela.
Ms. Burns is survived by her devoted sister, Patricia Nolan of Waskom; grandson, Jack Valenzuela of Shreveport, LA; daughter-in-law, Deborah Valenzuela of Shreveport, LA; brother-in-law, Rendell Futrell of Marshall; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
