Barbara E. Chatelain

OSWEGATCHIE – Barbara E. Chatelain, age 89, of Oswegatchie, passed away on August 29, 2025 at Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown.

There will be a graveside service on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Oswegatchie Cemetery. Arrangements are with French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Barbara was born on April 17, 1936 in Colton, one of 10 children born to the late John and Mildred (Western) Hoyt. She attended several schools in the Colton and Madrid area. Mrs. Chatelain worked as a waitress and cook for The Wheel in Potsdam, for over 30 years at the Wanakena Ranger School, and part-time in her retirement for the Clifton-Fine Central School.

Barbara enjoyed going for walks, camping, embroidery and crocheting. She used to bowl in the women's league and was a former member of the Star Lake Fire Department Auxiliary.

She is survived by her companion, Donald Kerr and his family, four children, Robert Chatelain of Carthage, Debra and John Leroux of Florida, Brenda and Bill Reil of Newton Falls and Kathy and Bob Rowney of Clifton Park. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
