Rhett Chatelain

Rhett Del Chatelain, known to many as Rhetty-Ram or Rewing, was born and raised in North Ogden, Utah, where he learned early that if something was broken, you didn't throw it out, you figured it out. That mindset carried him through life, through work, and through every relationship he touched.
He graduated from Weber High School in 1993 and spent 27 years with Weber School District, most recently as the Department Head of Maintenance at Bonneville High School. Rhett wasn't just the guy who kept the school running, he was the guy who kept people going. His coworkers adored him because he made every day lighter, every problem smaller, and every person feel seen and important. To them, he wasn't just dependable and talented, he was the heart of the building.
On September 21, 1995, Rhett married the love of his life, Shantel. Together they raised four incredible children: Kade, Ryker, Makhai, and Mylla. His family was the project he loved most and poured every ounce of himself into. There was nothing he wouldn't fix, carry, build, repair, or rebuild for his family. Loving them was his greatest craftsmanship.
He was the son of Tim and Dawn Chatelain, and brother to Shalise (Dell) Stilson and Kourt (Jamie) Chatelain. He is preceded in death by his sister, Shaina (Derek) Chatelain, whom he now reunites with in heaven.
Rhett's talent with his hands was unmatched. He restored his beloved 1970 red Chevy more than once, and beamed with pride when his kids drove it, like passing down a piece of himself. He was known for taking on projects that made no sense to anybody else. Family jokes included everything from soap dispensers and ice machines to sewing machines, medical devices, leather-working kits, Star Wars creations, 10-foot theater speakers, foot creams, hidden gun safes, the "Smith & Edwards basement," and air compressors that probably should've been put in the graveyard years ago. Rhett had a vision to increase the value of anything and everything he put his eyes and hands on. He saw potential where others saw none, and that was true of people too.
And then there was his garage, his kingdom. He owned more tools than Home Depot, each one organized with precision even if the garage itself absolutely was not. That was pure Rhett: organized chaos, overflowing with purpose, possibility, and projects waiting for just the right moment.
Sunday nights at 6 p.m. were sacred: "America's Funniest Home Videos" and a contagious laugh the family will miss forever.
"There was no such thing as 'broken' in Rhett's world, just 'not yet fixed.'" He lived this way. He loved this way. Whether it was an engine, a room, a plan, or a person, Rhett always, always, attempted to leave things better than he found them.
Funeral services will be held at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, UT, 84403, at 11:00 AM, with a viewing held an hour prior, and a celebration of life to immediately follow. A graveside service will take place at 2:00 PM at Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 E 2850 N, North Ogden, UT, 84414.
Rhett leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, skill, and a rare gift for making everything, and everyone, be just a little better.
