Barbara A. Dougherty, 86, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at her daughter's home in Plainfield. She was born Barbara A. Husvar on March 26, 1938, to parents, Edward and Margaret Husvar and grew up mainly in Nutley, New Jersey. While spending time at Belmar during the summer in her twenties, Barbara met her beloved husband, Richard. They were married on June 24, 1961, and started their life and family together in Kearny, New Jersey. A few years later in 1967, they settled in Hazlet, New Jersey, where they remained to raise their family.
Over the years, Barbara enjoyed spending time at the beach, especially with her husband and family in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, as well as Cape May, New Jersey, which was her favorite place. She and her family have been renting the same home in Cape May for the past 25 years where many special family memories were made. She loved country music; Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash were her favorites. Barb loved shopping especially picking out produce, tomatoes and peaches were her specialty. She loved to cook, and nobody ever left her house hungry and without a to-go container. Barb's family home in Hazlet was a common place of gatherings, both family and her children's friends knew her home as a very welcoming and warm, fun place for all. Her home was always decked out for the holidays, especially during Christmas, where you could always find more than one Christmas tree. Most of all Barbara was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to many. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Margaret Husvar, her beloved husband, Richard J. Dougherty, and her brothers, Thomas and James Husvar. Barbara is survived by her loving children, Richard E. Dougherty of Hazlet, Cheryl A. Dougherty of Plainfield, and Laura A. Dougherty of Plainfield, her dear siblings, Edward Husvar, and Ruth Ribbe and her husband, James, and her cherished grandchildren, Spencer Vito, Cooper Vito, and Liam Dougherty, along with many treasured nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
