Barbara Anne Engler

A strong advocate of education, Dr. Barbara Orchard Engler has peacefully entered the kingdom of heaven.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Margaret (Peggy) Langer, and her brother, William (Bill) Orchard. She is survived by her sons, Arthur Edward Engler III and William Howard Engler; her cherished grandchildren, Allison Engler, Analise Engler, and William Engler; her sister, Caroline Smallwood; her brothers, John Orchard and James Orchard; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Born in Orange, NJ and raised in Maplewood, NJ, Bobbi graduated from Columbia High School. She continued her education at Wilson College and Drew University, later earning her PhD in philosophy and theology. Bobbi went on to teach psychology for over 25 years at Union County College and authored Personality Theories, a textbook now in its ninth edition that continues to be used in psychology courses today. It was important to Bobbi that she made a lasting impact on the education system-and that she surely did.
After a period of doubt, Bobbi found a renewed faith-not rooted in dogma, but in a deep belief in God's love and the importance of loving others. She sought to practice her faith through caring for and forgiving others.
Her family's shore house in Bay Head, named Wavecrest, was Bobbi's favorite place to be, where she spent many summers creating cherished memories with her loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bobbi's memory to Christ Church in Short Hills or to the Education Fund at Lantern Hill in New Providence, New Jersey.
