Barbara Mowbray Griggs, age, 78 passed away on October 18th, 2025 at St Ann's Nursing Home in Oklahoma City Oklahoma. She was born on April 17, 1947 in Electra, Texas to Robert Howard and Margaret Howard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Joshua Lee Griggs, and siblings Robert (Bobby) Howard, John Campbell Howard, Pascal Howard, Lee Pierce Howard, Mary Howard, and Joan Imes.
She is survived by her daughters, Shaun Derouen and her husband, Jon of Edmond, Oklahoma and Julianne Herrera and her fiancee Jeff Mason of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and her grand daughter Katherine Derouen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is survived by siblings Margaret Ann Synder of Jacksonville, Floriida, Jaime Howard and his wife Tracy of Norman, Oklahoma, Phillip Howard and his wife Jane of Wewoka, Oklahoma. and brother in law John Imes of Warner, Oklahoma; along with numerous nieces and Nephews.
Barbara grew up in Wewoka, Oklahoma, the 5th of 10 children, graduating from Wewoka High School in 1965. She graduated college from Central State University (University of Central Oklahoma) with a Degree in Education in 1981. She worked as an educator in multiple elementary schools and finished her career at The Literacy Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She was active in her church, St John Nepomuk Catholic Church, Yukon, Oklahoma and dedicated her service to the Alter Society.
Barbara's interest were vast from painting with her sisters, reading, movies, dancing and especially music. You always knew when she arrived because you could hear her music coming from her car. Barbara loved spending time with her family, especially her grand daughter Katie. She was a avid letter and card writer and loved talking to everyone on the phone.
Barbara was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to thanks Barbara's loving caregivers at St. Ann's Nursing Home and her caregivers with Good Shepherd Hospice.
A Rosary for Barbara will be held on Tuesday, October, 21 2025 at 7:00pm at the Stout- Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka, Oklahoma.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at 10:00 am at the St Stephen Catholic Church in Holdenville, Oklahoma with internment following at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara's name with Catholic Charities of Oklahoma City of a charity of your choice. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Barbara, please visit our floral store.
