Barbara Johnson Jones Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, Mechanicville on Dec. 5, 2024.
Troy, NY – Barbara H. Johnson Jones, 80, died peacefully after a long period of declining health. Barb was born December 20,1943 in Lansingburgh, New York to the late Charles and Helen Jones. (She knew she was in trouble when her mom called her Abbie}. She grew up on the farm on Johnson Rd. in Latham, named after her great grandfather.
She attended Girl Scouts and Kindergarten in Lansburgh at Knickerbocker through 8th grade. Later, she attended Shaker High School.
Barb went to nursing school in Albany and then trained at Albany Medical to become an LPN. She worked in several local hospitals (including Cohoes Memorial Hospital for 22 years in the maternity ward); St. Joseph's Provincial House (for 2 years); and then various local nursing homes. She then provided home care through an agency for 20 years.
Barb was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Latham, NY where she was baptized as a young child. She attended various Bible Studies and enjoyed the fellowship with others. She was active in the United Methodist Women of Calvary (including President for 4 years) and on the nominations committee for the Albany District. She was asked to and agreed to preach at the Richmondville United Methodist Church, which she found to be challenging and rewarding. Barb loved children, music, and animals. She was a caring person who visited shut ins. Barb has been a friend to many whom will remember her for her sense of humor.
Barb was predeceased by her ex-husband, Bob, and several cousins.
A service to celebrate her life will be held this Saturday, December 7th at 10:30 a.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Latham. Burial will be held at Albany Rural Cemetery on Wednesday, December 11th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be provided in Barbara's name to Calvary United Methodist Church.
