Gordon A. DeLurey, of North Second Avenue in Mechanicville, NY, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY. Born on December 1, 1958, in Troy, NY, Gordon was the son of the late Gerald and Dorothy (Marcellus) DeLurey. He was the devoted husband of the late Sandra (Kniffen) DeLurey.
Gordon's presence was distinct-quiet, gentle, and full of peace. A gifted artist and musician, he found joy in painting, crocheting, and ceramics, sharing his creativity with those around him. He was a loyal and compassionate friend, and his warmth left a lasting mark on all who knew him. He loved animals, especially his cat, Scoops. Gordon thoroughly enjoyed his card communities and never turned down an invitation to play while spending time with family and friends.
Curious and humble, he carried a deep and varied knowledge of just about everything, from history and antiques to fashion and film. With his remarkable memory and keen observation, he naturally became his family's historian. He served as an organist and cantor for the former St. John the Baptist Church in Schaghticoke, and shared his love of music by teaching piano to his niece Mary and nephew Matthew. In addition to helping his niece run her business in Troy, Gordon worked for Price Chopper, The Eddy, and Petco. He devoted many years to caring for his parents in their home until their passing. He also cared for others privately, earning the gratitude of each family he helped.
Gordon is survived by his sister, Maureen (Matt) Cinadr; and his nieces and nephews: Matthew (Jennifer) Cinadr II, Mary Cinadr, Michael Cinadr, Tara (Bob) Bourgeois, Michael Sullivan, Laura (Tim) Brothers, Lisa (Tim) Russo, and Colleen Fernet. In addition to his parents and his wife, Gordon was predeceased by his siblings Marlene (the late John) Sullivan and Gerald (the late Rita) DeLurey; his nieces Michele Sullivan and Heather Ryan; his nephew Gerald DeLurey; and his best friend and roommate, Johnny Kniffen.
The family would like to thank Doug Martin for his generosity and steadfast care for Gordon during his recent hospitalization.
May the gentleness he embodied live on in the way we treat one another.
