Donald Delurey Obituary
Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Donald L. Delurey, Jr., of Kardas Road, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 68 years old.
Born on July 26, 1957, in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Donald Delurey Sr. and the Linda Speanburg Delurey. He was predeceased by his sister, DeNeil, and his brother, Dean, and is survived by his brother, Doug, and sister, Debbie.
Donald was a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School and was involved in trucking all of his life.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Sandra Hunt Delurey, of Valley Falls; his two children-his son, Donald (Lexie) Delurey III, of Moreau, and his daughter, Sara (Thomas) Delurey, of Brunswick; and one cherished grandchild, Dylan Delurey-as well as several nieces and nephews.
Above all, he was a devoted husband and proud father. He stood strong for them, loved them fiercely, and left them with a lifetime of wisdom, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
He and his wife shared almost 50 years of marriage, with their anniversary coming up this December. They were best friends who truly enjoyed each other's company and did just about everything together. Their relationship was built on mutual respect, love, and a deep sense of partnership that never wavered.
The relationship he had with his son was something he truly valued. Their time together in the outdoors was more than just a shared hobby-it was a cherished tradition, and sometimes a bit of friendly competition. Whether it was an early morning hunt or their trips to Letchworth, those moments meant everything to him. He would be proud to know that his grandson is already following in their footsteps, developing the same love for the outdoors and carrying on the traditions.
His daughter shared his personality traits to a tee-his sense of humor, his stubborn streak, and his big heart. He was always proud to call her his own.
He was grateful for his daughter-in-law, who never hesitated to cook up whatever he was craving. Whether it was a full meal or a simple treat, her constant care and thoughtfulness meant a lot to him. He also held a deep respect and fondness for Tommy, whose steady presence and "whatever you need" attitude never went unnoticed. He was grateful for all the ways Tommy and Lexie showed up for the family and took comfort in knowing his loved ones were in good hands.
One of his favorite daily rituals was the 4:30 a.m. Stewart's "coffee club." It wasn't just about the coffee-it was about the stories, the laughter, and the conversations that built lifelong friendships with people near and far. Those mornings were a cherished part of his routine and a testament to the simple joys in life. Thank you to all who crossed his path and gave him stories to share with his family and friends.
His lifelong friendship with Unc B was something he truly cherished. The two covered countless miles together on road trips that turned into full-blown adventures-filled with once-in-a-lifetime conversations, shared laughs, business ventures, and more wheels, deals, and cows than most could ever count. Their bond was one of those rare and special things in life. It was a one-of-a-kind friendship that will always be remembered.
He was also fortunate to have a wide circle of friends-Kevin C., Gordy, Chucky, Kevin A., Albie, and Chris L.-friendships that spanned decades and were built on shared experiences, unforgettable stories, and the kind of good times that leave a lasting mark. Over the years, he also formed meaningful relationships with members of the Amish and Mennonite communities-connections he deeply valued and held close to his heart.
There are far too many friends to name individually, but if you were lucky enough to know him, please know he valued your friendship-and that he'll be watching over you.
Memorial contributions in Donald's name may be made to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd, Rensselaer, NY 12144. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to his hospice nurse, Jake F., whose compassion, kindness, and care brought comfort during his final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held privately with friends and family.
