Barbara Ann Johnson, "Barb" to many, was born in 1960 to Francis and Shirley Schmidt in Massillon, Ohio. The second of six children, Barbara attended nursing school in Massillon. In 1987 she moved to Port St Lucie Florida with her brother Tim where she met her future husband, Jim Johnson. Married for 33 years, she passed away on Saturday, July 19th, 2025 in Port St. Lucie.
She worked for over 40 years as a Registered Nurse, specializing in pediatric hematology/oncology, positively impacting the lives of countless children and families. After her retirement Barbara faced several medical issues, some of these led to a compromised immune system, others led to a serious back problem. With proper surgery, a bit of time and a lot of perseverance she returned to an active life. She always felt that life was meant to be lived, not endured.
Barbara was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. She played golf frequently, and followed PGA events on TV every week. She was an avid member of the St. Lucie Catholic church, volunteering with the Council of Catholic Women, and the St Vincent De Paul Society. She frequently attended the theater, seeing shows on a regular basis. She and Jim traveled several times a year across Europe and North America. Their destinations included many natural and cultural destinations such as Yosemite national park and Barcelona Spain.
An incredibly kind, patient, moral person, she loved her family, friends and cats deeply with no reservations. She consistently helped those around her, brightening each room she entered with her caring enthusiasm. She is survived by her husband, Jim Johnson, and her children Jeremy Johnson, Brandon Walls, Demetrius Carrasquillo, Danny Locke, Katie Tudor, Nick Tudor, Carrie Tudor, Sammy Tudor and 6 grandchildren along with 4 of her beloved siblings and 7 dear nieces & nephews.
