Barbara Ann Maguire, lovingly known as Nanna, got her wings Sunday morning, May 15th, 2022 at the age of 76. She passed away at her home in Wilmington, NC after a long battle with cancer. In her last days she was surrounded by her family and dear friends. Our family will continue to honor her legacy by living life to the fullest.
All family and friends are welcome to attend her services. Her visitation will be held at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in her hometown of Burnsville, NC on Sunday May 22nd at 1 p.m. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. Frank Vance will officiate. Burial will take place in the family cemetery, Daniels Cemetery, in Newland, NC.
Ann was born in Crossnore, North Carolina to Para Angel and Nellie Vance on December 21st, 1945. She graduated from Cane River High School. She also attended Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina. She married Roy Swinson in 1978 and had their daughter, Ashley, in 1979. She remarried James Maguire in 2000.
Ann worked in telephone communications for over 25 years in Asheville, Charlotte, and Wilmington. She held various positions from operator and worked her way to manager. After she retired from the telephone company she went into real estate. She bought and rehabilitated houses with her husband Jim. However, her true passion was her family. She took care of everyone from family to friends to strangers. Ann always had an open door, an ear to lend, and the best advice to anyone who needed it. She was the most loving and selfless person. Anyone who knew her knew how truly kind and giving she was.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, James Maguire; her sister, Genevieve Angel; an infant brother, Richard Angel; and two brothers, Bobby Angel and Danny Angel; two grandsons: Jimmy and Nicholas Maguire.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Ashley Lytle and son-in-law Nick Lytle; grandchildren: Robert Swinson-Rucker, Daniel Gregory, Pixie Lytle, and Jeremiah Maguire; sisters, Hope Chandler and Shelby Silvers; step-sons: Bruce Maguire, Kenneth Maguire, and William Maguire; step-daughters: Tina Leonard and Sherri Moree; and daughter-in-law, Denise Maguire. She also has many nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved very much.
