Barbara Jean McCowan

Barbara Jean McCowan (née Laxton) was born on December 11, 1943, in Lansing, Michigan, and passed away on September 22, 2025, in Tavares, Florida. Affectionately known as "Barb," she made her home in Mount Dora for more than 40 years. There she found joy in gardening, visiting with neighbors and friends, and caring for the many stray cats that found their way to her doorstep. Barb was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Thomas McCowan (2011), and their children, Robert (1973) and Kaaren (2010). She is survived by her daughter Kristina (Peter) Castelli, her son Patrick (Marla) McCowan, and her cherished grandchildren: Logan Williams, Nicholas (Andrea) Castelli, Ross Schroeder, and Morgan and Brandon McCowan. Her love for her family was unwavering and will continue to live on through them. In keeping with her wishes, no services are planned. Her cremated remains will be scattered privately by her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Hospice of Tavares, Florida. Arrangements entrusted to Beyers Funeral Home of Leesburg, Florida.
