Barbara Ellen McWherter, 87, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Hallmark in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. 

Barb was born on February 22, 1938, in Whitten, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Lucille (Wolford) Strauss. She was a 1956 graduate of Radcliffe High School. She was united in marriage to Richard McWherter on June 10, 1956, in Buckeye, Iowa. Barb cherished her cats, took pleasure in watching westerns, crocheting, and used to enjoy taking walks. She was deemed the fastest person globally in saying 'Chicken'. Barb will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children, Susan (Robert) Hanlin, Jay (Nancy) McWherter, Daniel (Valley) McWherter, Lory Coustry, and Todd (Carrie) McWherter; grandchildren, Chad, Matt (Amanda), Wendy (Rick), Megan (Jake), Mandy, Jacob (Rachael), Morgan (Ben), Steven, Lillian, Zakkary, Rebekah, Seth, Phoebe; many great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; son, Wesley; great-grandson, Adam; and brothers, Dennis and Robert "Bob" Strauss.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of the family.
