Barbara A. Meyer

Barbara Ann Meyer, 72, of Toms River passed away on March 18th, 2023, at her home after a battle with cancer. She is survived by her daughter Jocelyn of Pittsburgh, PA, her son Tyler of El Paso, TX, her grandchildren Blake, Violet, and Cora, and her nephew, Tristan Homer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Violet Homer, and by her brothers, Jeff, Steve, and Larry.
Barbara was born in Point Pleasant, New Jersey to Gordon and Violet Homer on May 10, 1950. She attended high school at the original Toms River High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware, then a master's degree in education from Middlebury College.
She worked as a Spanish teacher for Penn Grove High School in Carneys Point, New Jersey for two years, and then worked at Dwight-Englewood School from 1977 until 1991 as a Spanish teacher, department chair, softball coach, and was also elected by the faculty to be their representative on the board of trustees.
Barbara then moved to Maryland where she worked at Connelly School of the Holy Child in Potomac from 1991 to her retirement in 2013. During her time at Holy Child, she taught Spanish and art history, coached softball, became the foreign language department chair, and oversaw the student council. She took her students to Spain every other year and was beloved by her students.
After retirement, she moved back to Toms River. Due to her unwavering passion for education, she continued to teach, helping non-native speakers learn English, many of whom became dear friends.
Barbara Meyer was an amazing teacher and mother, who loved art, theater, books, traveling, organizing Christmas parties and going to the beach. She was beloved by her students, friends and family and will be truly missed.
Memorial services will be held on April 15th, 2023, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Carmona-Bolen – Toms River, 412 Main St, Toms River, NJ 08753.
