Barbara Harvey Moore, age 89, passed away in the early hours of the 4th of February after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was a loving mother to two daughters, and wife to William Moore until he passed in 2008.Barbara was born in 1935 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania and grew up with two loving parents and a younger sister in a beautiful country home. After losing her mother at twelve years of age, Barbara took over running the household and helped to care for her younger sister, Jayne. Barbara was a good student and graduated S. Horace Scott Senior High School in 1953.
She learned to sew at an early age. She would go on to become an accomplished seamstress with dreams of attending college to become a fashion designer. She married young instead and went on to sew beautiful, fashionable clothing for her daughters, even designing and sewing one of her daughter's wedding dresses.
After her daughters were out of the home, she created a process to finish soft cloth dolls to mimic old folk dolls and went on to establish a business selling them. Her "folk dolls" were featured in the American Folk Art Museum's magazine for sale as well as in Dolls magazine.
Barbara loved to cook and enjoyed feeding her family and friends. After each of her grandsons were born, she loved to spend time babysitting them. Barbara is survived by her daughters; Karen and Stacie, her son-in-law; Todd, her sister; Jayne and her grandsons; Garrett, Matthew, Connor and Jonathon.
She is pre-deceased by her husband, Bill and her son-in-law, Michael Harris. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, grandsons and friends.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 13, from 6-7pm at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington where a funeral service will follow at 7pm. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market St., Suite 102, Phila. PA19106.
