Barbara Gale Morris, 81, of Sour Lake, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Houston on July 29, 1943, to Anita Maxine Haskins and Lyon Lemont Eldridge, Barbara lived a life defined by creativity, compassion, and service to others. Her warm spirit and vibrant personality left an indelible mark on every life she touched.
A proud graduate of John H. Reagan High School in 1961, Barbara was a member of the esteemed Reagan Redcoats and served as a bass drum sergeant. She continued her education at Sam Houston State Teachers College, earning a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and Business with a minor in photography. During her time there, she was an active member of Delta Zeta Sorority and served as president in her senior year.
Barbara married in 1965 and began her professional journey working in Medical Technology at the Houston Medical Center. Her calling to serve and mentor others led her to volunteer extensively through the Catholic Church, teaching CYO and working with youth groups. After relocating to Beaumont in 1972, she continued her service at St. Pius Catholic Church, teaching fourth-grade CYO and sponsoring teen ministries.
A devoted mother and tireless advocate for education, Barbara volunteered at Longfellow Elementary, served on the PTO board as PTO President, and was honored with a Life Membership in the National PTA. Her passion for children and community blossomed further through her work with the Beaumont and Port Arthur Camp Fire Councils, where she served as both District Director and Camp Director for Camp Niwana and Camp Waluta. Her dedication earned her the "Hero of the Week" award from Channel 6 News-a reflection of the profound difference she made in young lives.
Barbara also excelled professionally, working as a pharmaceutical sales representative with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, where she earned numerous awards and sales accomplishments, before pursuing her lifelong love of sewing. She opened Barbara Gale's Alteration Shop, which she proudly ran for over 30 years. With her talent and artistry, Barbara created more than clothing-she crafted confidence, comfort, and joy for so many.
Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She became a beloved member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in 1978, where she taught Sunday School, chaired numerous events for the St. Mark's Chili supper and Bazaar, and played in the Handbell Choir for 29 years. Her church family was an extension of her own, and she cherished those relationships deeply.
Barbara's greatest joy came from her family. She is survived by her daughter, Buffy Gajeske, and her husband, Bill; her son, Buddy Morris; her brother, Ronnie Eldridge, and his wife, Cheryl; grandchildren, Michael Gajeske and his wife, Lauren; Ryan Gajeske and Julie Lloyd; Molly Gajeske; Taryn Schnee; and Briana Morris; and great-grandchildren, Parker Gajeske, Emma Gajeske, and Anna McLemore; Nephews, Ronnie and Marcus Eldridge. She also leaves behind her beloved cousin, Betty Ann Helton; extended family, Bill, Charlotte, Carly, and Aaron Piepenhagen; Lois and Charles Glenn; Virginia Bailey; and Peggy Bland; and dear friends, Darlene Walker and Genie Cook-along with countless others whose lives she enriched with her kindness, humor, and boundless love.
Barbara's legacy is one of grace, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to others. Her laughter, hugs, and homemade gifts will be missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A memorial service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 5, 2025, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 680 Calder Avenue, Beaumont. Cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard's Crematorium, under the direction of Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.
