Barbara Ann (Neubauer) Pemberton

Barbara Ann (Neubauer) Pemberton passed away on May 15, 2025, in Florida. Born in Athens, Georgia, August 19, 1944, daughter of Don and Eunice (Shultz) Cooper.

Barbara grew up in Detroit and spent most of her summers in Traverse City, where she graduated from Cooley High School. She earned a degree in Education (K-12) from Murray State University. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, she worked as a substitute teacher in Detroit, sharing her knowledge and passion with students across the city.

A pivotal moment in Barbara's life came during a summer visit to Alaska in the 1970s to see her sister Cathy. This summer trip turned into a permanent relocation when Barbara found herself deeply connected to the people and landscape of Alaska. She made Fairbanks her home and continued her work as an educator, primarily as a substitute teacher.

In the 1980s, Barbara embarked on a new chapter by opening the Fairbanks Bed and Breakfast. For nearly three decades, she welcomed guests' warmth and hospitality. Her B&B became not just a place to stay but a reflection of her generous spirit and love for community.

Barbara had an enduring appreciation for Alaska's natural beauty, especially its vibrant summers that allowed her to cultivate lush gardens filled with extraordinary flowers. Her love of the arts was equally strong; she loved live music, theater productions, and art shows. A passionate advocate for civic engagement, Barbara volunteered in numerous political campaigns from the 1970s through the early 2000s.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Pemberton; her parents, Don and Eunice Cooper; and her sisters, Connie Snyder and Dorothy Cooper.

Barbara is survived by her sister Cathy Irving, her son John Neubauer, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews who were part of her extended family circle.

Barbara Ann Pemberton's legacy lives on through the many lives she touched. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 21, 2025, at 03:00 PM at Boatel Bar.
