Barbara Jean Rhodes, born on November 14, 1948, in New Roads, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on December 12, 2023. She was the beloved daughter of Viola Forest and the oldest among her nine siblings.
After completing her education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Barbara embarked on a new chapter in Kansas City, Missouri.
She leaves behind two children Michelle Draper (Anthony) and Michael Rhodes Sr. (Heather).
Barbara was a member of Palestine Missionary Baptist Church.
Ms. Rhodes dedicated her life to education, beginning her journey as a Math Teacher at Paseo High School and later becoming a Technology Specialist at Park Hill High School in the greater Kansas City area. Ms. Rhodes established a new tradition in 2003 as the first coach of the Park Hill Step Team. Her passion for teaching touched the lives of countless students, and her influence extended over decades until her well-deserved retirement from public education in 2015.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Viola Forest and brother, Anthony "Rocky" Forest.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Dominique Phillips (Joshua), Danielle Langner (Keith), Delisia Draper, Mackenzie Ways, Michael Rhodes Jr., Cayden Rhodes, and Colton Rhodes. Additionally, her great-grandchildren; Jacelyn Phillips, Malachi Langner, and Kylah Langner brought immense joy to her later years. Siblings include Joyce Burkley (Lee), Ronald Forest, Charles Forest (Lynn), Deborah Bell (Bruce), Wilbert "Bill" Forest, Jerrome Forest (Cathy), John Forest, and Sondra Scott (Joe), and a host of other relatives and friends.
In celebrating Barbara's life, we remember her warmth, wisdom, love of fashion and the Kansas City Chiefs. She had an everlasting impact on everyone she met. The memories shared by family, friends, colleagues, and many others will carry on her remarkable journey.
The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in the memorial service to honor Barbara Jean Rhodes to be held, Friday December 22, 2023, at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ at 11a.m. 3619 E 35th St, Kansas City, MO 64128.
Interment: Private.
Repast for Immediate Family Only after services.
