Barbara K. Scheirer, a devoted educator, loving family member, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born on January 27, 1945, to Everett and Virginia Scheirer, Barbara dedicated her life to the care and education of others. As a Registered Nurse and Professor of Nursing, she touched countless lives through her teaching at institutions including Galveston, Grambling, Tyler College, and LSU Medical Center, where she ultimately retired. Her commitment to the field of nursing left a lasting legacy of compassion, skill, and mentorship.
Barbara's love extended beyond the classroom. She was an avid bowler, a passionate reader, and found joy and peace in crocheting - often gifting handmade treasures to those she loved. Her warmth, wit, and gentle strength were felt by all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved son, James Scheirer, her chosen son Chris McClure, and her stepdaughter, Sonja Pyles, husband Tommy. She also leaves behind her sister, Mary and husband Ed Butz, her brother, Doug Scheirer, wife, Judy. grandchildren, Randy Eiland and wife, Megan, Samantha Eiland, and great-grandchildren who brought her immense pride and joy. She also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Barbara's nurturing heart, sharp mind, and steady presence will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by family, friends, former students, and colleagues.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband John Madison.
