Barbara Ann Schwab was born on March 24, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, to Siegel Walter Skiple and Hildur Berg Skiple. She passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on November 1, 2025, in
Granbury, Texas. Barbara attended Taft High School in Chicago, Illinois, and, later in life, enrolled in writing classes at Brookhaven College in Farmers Branch, Texas. An avid reader, Barbara also enjoyed writing several short stories.
Barbara was married to her high school sweetheart, Theodore (Ted) Schwab, for 74 years. While living in the Chicago suburbs of Rolling Meadows and Western Springs, her full-time job was raising three boys until they reached junior high age. Upon leaving Western Springs in 1977, Ted and Barbara moved to Carrollton, Texas, where they enjoyed 46 years in their home in the Country Place. Here they were active in tennis, golf, and bridge groups, with Barbara winning many bridge trophies. During this time, Barbara began working for Setco Enterprises Corporation where she ran a tight ship in the accounting, shipping, and travel departments. As part of her position, she was able to travel to Egypt and the Holy Land. In 2023, Ted and Barbara moved to
Granbury, Texas, to be close to one of their sons.
Barbara's greatest love was her family, and she delighted in holiday gatherings, birthdays, and special occasions where she would prepare delicious home cooked meals. A true follower of the etiquette of Amy Vanderbilt and Emily Post, Barbara consistently displayed her exquisite taste and attention to detail when entertaining family, extended family, and friends. Her dinners were always a success! One of the family's favorite meals was Barbara's Swedish pancakes prepared from her grandmother's recipe.
Barbara had a keen mind and enjoyed delving deeply into subjects that interested her. She tackled and mastered the computer, iPhone, and iPad into her nineties and stayed current on politics and world affairs. She also enjoyed the challenge of word games and could rarely be beaten at Scrabble.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother, Roger (Joyce) Skiple of Arlington Heights, IL, husband Ted Schwab of
Granbury, TX, sons Gary (Dawn) Schwab of Plainfield, IL, Greg (Sharon) Schwab of Eureka, IL, Geoff (Mary Ann) Schwab of
Granbury, TX, grandson Matthew (Aiko) Schwab of Kanazawa, Japan, granddaughter Audrey Schwab of Colorado Springs, CO, six great grandchildren, and guardian grandchildren Bill Battle of Oswego, IL and Brian Battle of Wonderlake, IL. She will also be remembered by her nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Aviva Senior Living, Renew Home Health Care, Seniorly Yours, and Concho Hearts Hospice.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on December 6, 2025, in
