Mrs. Barbara K. Smithson, 85, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Chase City Health and Rehab Center.
Mrs. Smithson was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on August 30, 1940 to the late Floyd and Fannie Keene. She attended West End High School in Clarksville, VA, and was a graduate of Mary M. Bethune High School in Halifax, VA. At an early age she joined Bluestone Baptist Church in Skipwith, VA. Mrs. Smithson worked in food service for numerous years; she gained employment at Chase City Elementary School and later with Mecklenburg Correctional Center until her retirement. Barbara loved sharing God’s word and would always lend a helping hand to those in need.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Smithson; two brothers, Jessie Keene and Floyd Keene, Jr.; two sisters, Margaret White and Ruth Pride; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Lorraine Dodd.
She leaves to cherish her memories three children, Vanessa Haskins (Keith), Marvin Dodd (Christy) and Lamont Dodd all of Chase City, VA; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Brenda Downey (Arthur) of Clarksville, VA; two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Keene Smithson will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 15, 2025 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Dennis King, officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
