Barbara "Sydney" Underwood

Services for Barbara "Sydney" Underwood, 87, of Tyler, will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Brumley officiating. A private family burial will be held at Cathedral in the Pines in Tyler preceding the memorial service.
Sydney passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, March 6, 2025, in Tyler. She was born October 25, 1937, in Tyler and raised by her loving parents Wayne and Dorothy Pendergraft.
Sydney was a long-time member of Green Acres Baptist Church and was blessed to share her faith and friendship with her Sunday school class, Women of Grace. She was dedicated to her faith, family, and friends.
Sydney was a 1955 graduate of Tyler High School and attended business courses at Tyler Jr College. She built a successful and respected career at Prentice Hall Publishing Company. She left a lasting impact on colleges, clients, and the industry. With her outgoing personality and her ability to talk and relate to anyone in the field of outside sales it was a career that suited her perfectly. She consistently exceeded her sales quota goals and for ten consecutive years she was one of Prentice Hall's top sales representatives in the country. After her retirement from Prentice Hall, she worked part-time at Brookshires Wildlife Museum and volunteered weekly for Bethesda Health Clinic.
Sydney was preceded in death by her parents, husband Monroe Underwood, and cousins Debbie Sword and Rick Parker. She is survived by her daughter Rhonda Dennis, and son Robert Dennis (Sheli and son Bryce).
Honorary Pallbearers are long-time friend Cary Medlock, members of Women of Grace Sunday School Class at Green Acres Baptist Church, and members of the class of 1955 Tyler High School.
The family wishes to thank everyone who was a part of the exceptional care she received at Prestige Estates Assisted Living and Memory Care and the staff at Paloma Hospice.
