Services for Sylvia C. Kirby will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Edom United Methodist Church, with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Bullard Cemetery, with Pastor Joanne Williams-Elliott officiating.
Sylvia Coleen Ford Kirby entered her heavenly home on October 11, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on May 12, 1937, she lived a life full of faith, love, and dedication to her family and community.
A graduate of Van High School, Class of 1955, and Tyler Business School and Tyler Junior College, Sylvia used her education to build a meaningful career and a life centered around service. She took great pride in her 30-year career with the Texas State Rehabilitation Commission, where she helped others achieve their goals and independence.
She was a lifelong member of Edom United Methodist Church, where she sang joyfully in the choir, served faithfully in many church roles, and volunteered wherever she was needed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Dalton and Martha Marie Ford, and her husband, J.M. Kirby.
She leaves behind her loving son, James Marcus Kirby, Jr.; her grandchildren, Shelbi (Uriah) Chambers, Sidni (Travis) Carruthers, and Dalton (Casi) Kirby; and her great-grandchildren, JoLea, Ezlyn, and Charles Jase Chambers, Pierce, Lewis, and Sunny Carruthers, and Hazel, Hayden Martin, and P.J. Kirby. She is also survived by her brother, Keith (Kathy) Ford, her bonus son and dear friend Randy Clearman, and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.
"Mama Kirby," as she was lovingly known, made sure no one ever doubted how deeply she loved them. Her home was filled with photos, laughter, and warmth-a reflection of her generous heart.
The family would like to thank the community for their continued prayers, love, and support during this time.
"Let all that you do be done in love." – 1 Corinthians 16:14
