It is with deep affection and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Barry A. Williams, Sr., affectionately known as "Big Foot", "Foot", or "Big Ba". Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Maurice Williams and Barbara Jean Williams. Barry was an extraordinary individual who exemplified honor, compassion, service, and an unwavering commitment to his family.
Barry began his education in the Portsmouth Public School System and was a member of the first graduating class from Manor High School in 1973. He then attended St. Paul's College for a few months before deciding to join the United States Army, where he served for two years at Fort Meade, MD. In 1977, he commenced his career at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) as a Shipwright in Shop 64, retiring after 40 years of dedicated service. Subsequently, he worked part-time at Amazon.
Barry was a man of faith and served the Lord faithfully. He was a member of St. Mark's Deliverance Center in Portsmouth, VA, where he worshipped until his passing. Barry was known for his laid-back personality and cool demeanor. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and watching sports, particularly football, tennis, track, and field. His favorite football team was the Washington Commanders, formerly known as the "Redskins," and he was often seen wearing their hat or hoodie. Additionally, he cherished moments spent with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Williams and Barbara Jean Williams.
Barry, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, shared 46 years of marriage with his wife, Ivory Williams, also left to cherish his memories are his children, Raylene Brayboy (Jimmie), Donita Williams, Barry Williams, Jr. (Lieshia), Karitsa McCoy (Kenny), and Sherri Williams; five sisters: Cheryl Veal (Fred), Anita Mason, Donna Tisdale (Anthony), Marilyn Martin (Timothy), and Patrice Williams; fourteen grandchildren: Taraya Williams, Tarena Wilson (Richard), Tionne Burnette, Talona Burnette, Taquana Cortez (Dillion), Reginald Oates, Raymeir Oates, Dwain Nepton, Jr., Tarkeem Kearney-Nepton, Donasia Nepton, Cassie Williams, Maxwell Williams, Harvey McCoy, and Kari McCoy; eight great-grandchildren: Kymani, Jahleel, Cordauris, Cori, Jenesis, Khia, KyMyla, and Kinori; three sisters in-law: Dorothy Jo Young, Berma S. Scott (Eugene), and Emma Young-McMillian (Keith) along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends, and former coworkers.
