On Thursday, January 30, 2025, after a life filled with giving and receiving love from all she encountered, Tina Anita Harrell, resident of Cavalier Manor, Portsmouth, VA, went home peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with her youngest son, CJ, by her side.
Tina was the youngest of three children born to the late Jay and Virginia Mitchell, who relocated to Portsmouth from Winton, North Carolina. On May 21, 1982, Tina married the love of her life, Reginald Andrew Harrell, of Portsmouth. From this union came two sons; Terrell Andrew Harrell and Cornelius Jerome Harrell (CJ.) Tina and Reginald both enjoyed volunteering as "Band Parents" for the I.C. Norcom Versatile 100 Marching Band, where both of her sons were members during the span from 1998-2004. In the class of 1977, Tina graduated from Manor High School in Portsmouth.
After graduation, Tina served in the commercial cleaning industry. She was an inspector at RUS (currently Cintas) for over 10 years. Tina also served in the home healthcare industry as a caregiver for over 10 years. After overcoming her debilitating illness in the 2000's, Tina became a supervisor for the intellectually disabled in the workforce.
Her kind spirit was transcendent, and everyone she encountered was met with warmth, sound advice, and encouragement. Being easy to talk to, she was valued for her wise council and her ability to empower others to realize their greatest potential.
On January 31, 2022, Tina became the proud "Nana" of a beautiful baby girl named Harmony Joyelle Harrell, who provided her with her greatest joy during her final years of life.
Tina was proceeded in death by her parents, Jay and Virginia Mitchell, her husband of 40 years, Reginald (June 10, 2022,) her oldest son, Terrell (May 22, 2023,) her sister-in-law Brenda Myers (November 27, 2019) and her brother-in law Brett Harrell (August 2, 2023).
She is survived by her youngest son, CJ, her siblings, Jay Willis Mitchell and Pamela Milner, one brother-in-law, Alan Harrell of Suffolk, one sister-in-law, JoAnn Ward (William) of Fort Rucker, AL, and her beloved house dogs Jenny and Rallo. As a "second mom" to many of her sons' friends, her loss has also impacted all of her adopted sons and daughters, as well as a host of life long friends.
Tina transitioned to heaven after living a life that was worthwhile. On Earth, she lived a life of compassion, simplicity, and thankfulness of the pleasures of the world. Tina displayed character that only God could have instilled in her, and her spirit will be cherished by all of her loved ones until death reunites us all in Glory.
