Bedford Byrum, a cherished member of the Mercer community, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was 83 years old.
Born on January 29, 1942, in Cloverport, TN, Bedford lived a life full of passion and dedication. He embraced the outdoors with enthusiasm, finding immense joy in his time as a cattle farmer. As a cattleman he had the pleasure of working with youth in showing cattle at various fairs in the area, as well as volunteering his time with the Tennessee Baptist Children's Boys Ranch.
Alongside this lifelong passion, he also made significant contributions as an HVAC contractor and ran a plumbing company. His professional journey included a few years with SM Lawrence, where he showcased his skills and commitment to his work.
A standout figure in his community, Bedford served as a Captain with the Madison County Volunteer Fire Department. His outgoing personality and love for conversation made him a beloved presence among friends and neighbors. In his younger years, he actively participated in church league sports, further demonstrating his commitment to community involvement and camaraderie. He delighted in quail hunting, cherishing the time spent outdoors and with those he loved.
Bedford leaves behind his devoted spouse, Rose Forrest Byrum, of Mercer, TN; his son, Marc Byrum, and his wife, Pamela, of Jackson, TN; and his beloved granddaughter, Ali Shaffer, of Jackson, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas O. and Myrtle Sanderson Byrum; his brother, Herbert Byrum; and his sister, Nell Turpin Turner.
SERVICES: The visitation with family and friends will be held at Arrington Funeral Directors Friday, August 22, 2025, beginning at 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Additional visitation will take place at Maple Springs Baptist Church on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Joe McIntire, Rev. Justin Moreland and Jeff Epps officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark Mask, Benny Warren, Larry (Bubba) Hooper, Mike Morris, Larry King and Jeff Daniel.
Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Richardson, Gerry Neese, Harvy Walden and Travis Johnson.
