Benny R. Simpson, age 85, of Perdido, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, closest friends, and his loyal companion Brinkley on Sunday, August 17, 2025. Born in Excel, Alabama, Benny lived a life full of hard work, laughter, music, and love. In his younger years, he was well known as the proud owner of the Lady Bug Lounge and Club 21. There, he found joy in entertaining friends and performing with his band; which Hal and Shirley Long were a big part of, creating memories that would last a lifetime for those who knew him. Music and people were always at the heart of who Benny was-he never met a stranger, and anyone who crossed his path was met with a warm smile, good conversation, and usually a bit of his well-earned advice. Later, Benny devoted himself to his career in construction, traveling across the United States and eventually working in the oilfields of Alaska, where he retired. He carried with him a remarkable work ethic and adventurous spirit, always willing to take on new challenges. He is preceded in death by his parents John L and Lillie Bell Simpson; brothers Melvin and O'Neil Simpson. At home, Benny's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-three years, Shelia C. Simpson of Perdido, Alabama; two sons, Ricky (Dorrie) Simpson of Loxley, Alabama and Cooper (Marisa) Simpson of Perdido, Alabama; one daughter, Alisa Simpson (Dwayne) Gray of Bay Minette, Alabama; his brother, James L. Simpson of Bay Minette, Alabama; his sister, Carolyn (Eric) Corley of Gautier, Mississippi; five grandchildren, Sorcha Blake(Trevor), Jeremy Simpson (Megan), Emma-Claire Simpson, Kevin Dunlap (Nicole), and Benjie Dunlap (Savannah), and eight great-grandchildren. Benny loved to fish, watch football, play poker, and stay busy with the work he enjoyed-but above all else, he loved being surrounded by his family. He was full of knowledge, quick with a story, and happiest when sharing his wisdom or laughter with others. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of those he loved. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 6:30 PM at Petty Funeral Homes, LLC., with Reverend Don Davis and Sister Helen Stewart officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service, from 5:00 PM until 6:30 PM, at Petty Funeral Homes, LLC. Honorary pallbearers :Jerry Linam, Asher Linam, Jimmy Hardy, Michael Hyatt, Logan Hyatt, Steve White, and Eddy Osborne The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Kaylee Sanspree with Southern Care Hospice for her care and compassion, along with a special thank you to Nicole Dunlap for the comfort and support she provided during this difficult time.
