Bentsion Bilenko, a dedicated and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024. Born on January 29, 1946, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Bentsion demonstrated a creative spirit and supportive nature from his early years. He started working at an early age and worked as a machinist at a textile factory. His talent for anything mechanical was recognized early and he was encouraged to become an engineer. He completed his degree in mechanical engineering at night while working and supporting his family. His life was one of commitment and devotion, shaped by the values of his Jewish faith. As it is written in Proverbs 20:7, "The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him." Bentsion was indeed a righteous man, and his integrity and love will continue to bless his family for generations. His righteousness and dedication to his family led to immigration to Columbus, Ohio in 1989 away from the disarray of the collapsing Soviet Union.
Bentsion was a great engineer with an ability to design, build, and repair anything he set his mind to, a skill he put to excellent use in his second successful career in the United States as an owner of a contracting business. He retired in 2014, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. Bentsion was not just a man of business; he was a man of many passions. He found joy in the simplicity of fishing and the warmth of the Florida sun. However, nothing brought him more joy than his family. Family was at the core of Bentsion's world, and he was a rock of dependability and love for his wife, sister, children, niece, and grandchildren.
Bentsion is survived by his loving wife, Mira; his sons, David and Arkady; his daughter-in-law, Irina; his cherished grandchildren, Rena, Benjamin, and Esther; his loving sister, Svetlana Bodner and niece, Alla Yakover. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Bilenko and Roza Zeltser and his sister Alla Bilenko. Bentsion's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, dedication, and creativity. His memory will forever be a source of strength and inspiration for all who knew him.
The funeral service will be held at New Tifereth Israel Cemetery, 2565 Performance Way Columbus, Ohio, 43207 on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11:30am EDT. Following the funeral, the family is gathering at Polo Club Villas Clubhouse on the Polo Club Dr in Gahanna to remember and celebrate Bentsion's life.
Memorial donations may be made to the Magen David Adom Israel's national fund to honor Bentsion's love and dedication to the safety of the State of Israel. https://www.mdais.org/en/donation (https://www.mdais.org/en/donation)
