"Bernie" worked at Cleveland Trust Bank in her early years, but her greatest joy was her family. She dedicated her life to nurturing "all her kids", as she referred to all her "children and grandchildren", showering them with unwavering love and support. She was smart, and practical, and always tried to make the lives of others easier. There wasn't a job she wouldn't tackle to help someone out. Many of the girls of the family have the name "Bernadette" as their Confirmation name in her honor. She was a talented homemaker who enjoyed baking, sewing, and being a "jack of all trades". Her Irish soda bread, strudel, holiday breakfasts, popcorn balls, peanut brittle and chocolate chip cookies were legendary among family and friends. "Bernie" often reminded her loved ones that "life is crazy crazy," a phrase that perfectly captured her vibrant and energetic spirit.
The family suggests donations may be made in their mom's name to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
Family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 20, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, Jan. 21 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center Street (Rt. 615, N. of Rt. 2), Mentor.
