It is with profound sadness that I announce the sudden passing of my beloved brother, Bernard Jude Avitabile, who died on August 23, 2024, and was born on January 13, 1973, on Staten Island, New York. Bernard graduated from Wagner College, Cum Laude, in 1995 with a BFA in English Literature. He also graduated from Monsignor Farrell High School in 1991. Bernard was a shining light in our family. We grew up side by side facing life's challenges and joys together. We shared a bond that words can hardly describe, filled with laughter, late-night talks, and endless support.
Bernard was a well-read, smart, selfless, compassionate kind man with a great sense of humor who had a love of English literature, politics, pop culture, Star Wars trilogy movies, music, art, gardening, cooking and spending time with his family and friends. He was a beloved medium and spiritual life coach. His dedication to his family, friends and clients was truly remarkable. Bernard was known for his generosity and kindness. He was always there for anyone in need. Bernard was a pillar of strength and a beacon of hope for all who knew him.
He is predeceased by his father, Bernard John Avitabile, his mother, Vincenza "Vinnie" Avitabile, his uncle, Frank Nichio, and, maternal grandparents, James and Mary Nichio, and paternal grandparents, John and Ethel Avitabile. Bernard leaves behind his sister Maria Avitabile and a legacy of love, kindness, and unforgettable memories. His spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
A service to celebrate his life will take place at John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals in Staten Island, New York on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 2pm-4pm.
Contributions and donations to his GoFundMe page in his honor in lieu of flowers would be greatly appreciated.
