John M. McNamara, 74, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025, on Staten
Island, NY.
John was born in the Bronx, NY, and lived there until 1961, at which time his
family moved to Staten Island, NY.
He attended St Patrick's grammar school and Monsignor Farrell High School.
John was an excellent student, who won a Regents Scholarship to NYU. After
a break from NYU, he earned his bachelor's degree from CUNY.
He was a member of DC37 and worked for the City of New York as a
Computer Programmer/Analyst for many years before retiring.
As a youngster, John loved to play baseball, football, and especially
basketball. He played basketball on various CYO teams well into his twenties
and enjoyed coaching his brothers and friends.
John had a passion for college basketball. His favorite teams were St. John's
and UConn. His love for the sport was so contagious that now everyone in
the family shares his love of March Madness. He really enjoyed coordinating
trips with family/friends to see his teams play at Madison Square Garden.
John was predeceased by his parents, John P. and Loretta McNamara. He is
survived by his three brothers, Paul and his wife, Pawn, Peter and his wife,
Lisa, and David and his wife, Robin; his nephews Peter John and his wife
Betsy, James and his wife, Cassie, David John and his wife, Danielle,
Matthew, Kevin, Daniel, his niece Kelly, and two great nieces, Grace and
Chloe.
The viewing will be at Hanley Funeral Home on Friday, April 11, from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick's Church in
Richmond town on Saturday, April 12, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, consider
donating in his memory to The American Parkinson Disease Association,
