Joel (Bernard) Cominsky, a humble servant of God and a man of unwavering faith, was called to his eternal home on January 28, 2024, at the age of 78. Born in
Evanston, Illinois, on December 4, 1945, to his late parents Bernard R and Henrietta (Henny) Cominsky, Joel was a beacon of light to all who knew him.
A true testament to the virtue of diligence, Joel dedicated his life to the mastery of his craft as a Tool & Die Maker. His hands, guided by the grace of humility and precision, shaped not only metal but also the lives of those around him through his work at Bell & Gossett in Morton Grove. Later years in his trade was at Wauconda Tool & Engineering in Algonquin. Despite life's adversities, including health trials that would test his resolve, Joel's steadfast spirit never wavered from his calling.
Joel's life was a chorus of gratitude for the gifts bestowed upon him by the Creator. His love for woodworking and gardening was an expression of his reverence for all of creation, finding joy in shaping wood into art and tending to the earth's bounty. His
travels were pilgrimages of the heart, seeking beauty and connection across God's vast canvas.
A fervent supporter of the Chicago Cubs and Da Bears, Joel found fellowship and community in the shared highs and lows of the sports he cherished. His commitment to fostering rescued animals through A Heart For Animals Rescue was a reflection of his deep respect for all living creatures.
In his spiritual journey, Joel found solace and strength at The Hope Collective in Lake Zurich. He was a grateful friend of Bill W since 1995, embodying the principles of recovery with grace and humility. Joel's devotion to his faith and his church family was a living sermon of love, compassion, and service.
Joel's legacy is carried on by his soulmate, devoted wife of 60 years, Carol (Cserep) their children, John Michael, Lisa Anne Doyen, Jami Lynn, 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a multitude of relatives and friends who were touched by his gentle spirit. Brother David, (Denny), Merrily (Randy) Steffen, Robyn (Charles) Chilcotte, the late Carol and Jack Smith. His life was a tapestry woven with threads of kindness, patience, and love, and though he has departed from this earthly realm, his spirit remains an indelible part of the fabric of their lives.
A Memorial service to honor Joel's sacred journey will be held in due time, allowing those who loved him to gather and give thanks for the blessing he was in their lives. In lieu of flowers, contributions to support his beloved Carol with funeral and medical expenses would be a cherished act of kindness.
The family has entrusted Joel's final arrangements to Colonial Funeral Home McHenry in Illinois, where they cared and prepared cremation. Joel's family want to send their gratitude to the Aspen team at Journey Care Hospice, Barrington. Delia, his caregiver since 2018.
May Joel's soul, now in the loving embrace of the Lord, find eternal peace and rest. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted, and blessed is the memory of Joel Bernard Cominsky, a man of God whose life was a psalm of gratitude and love. Amen.
