Bernard Stephen "Steve" Dignam, Jr., 83, of Windsor, beloved husband of Merilyn F. (Seymour) Dignam, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024. He was born December 10, 1940, the son of the late, Dr. Bernard Stephen Dignam Sr., and Grace (Maher). Steve grew up in the Thompsonville section of Enfield. He was a 1957 graduate of Suffield Academy. He went on to attend St. Michaels College in Winooski, VT, ultimately leaving after his junior year to enlist in the United States Army. Steve proudly served his country while being stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1969. Steve was a career Financial Officer, beginning at Connecticut Bank & Trust, where he met his wife Merilyn, and then eventually retired from Moore Medical after more than 25 years of service. Steve enjoyed scratch off lottery tickets, watching sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, New York Giants Boston Celtics and UCONN Men's Basketball. He also loved to work in his yard gardening and enjoyed sitting in the sun while reading a good book. Steve spent many years at the family vacation home in Chatham MA, where many lasting memories were made with his kids and grandkids. He loved being Poppa to his great/grandkids. Steve is survived by his wife of 56 years, Merilyn F. (Seymour) Dignam of Windsor, his son, Karl S. Dignam of Manchester, his daughters, Heather L. Hwalek and her husband Ronald of Vernon, Tara E. Dignam of Manchester and Courtney C. Dignam of Nashville, TN, his cherished grandchildren, Lilah Pendleton of South Windsor, Ashlyn Dignam of Manchester, Tristan Hwalek of Vernon, Kylie Hwalek of Vernon, Mariah Miles of Windsor and Emily Miles of Manchester, and his great-grandchildren, Alana Miles and Isabella Miles. Steve was predeceased by his parents, and his siblings Rosemary Garland and Dr. Thomas Dignam. Steve's family will receive friends on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 5-7PM at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, CT 06095. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 10AM at St. Damien of Molokai Parish – St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad Street, Windsor, CT 06095. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Enfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve's memory may be made to COPD Foundation, 3300 Ponce De Leon Blvd, Miami, FL 33134.
