Bernard Pyron, of Northwye, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the age of 93. Born October 25, 1931, in Somerset, Texas, Bernard entered this world at the homestead of his father, Blake Bernard Pyron, and his mother, Mable May Moote. The son, grandson, and great-grandson of Texas cattlemen, Bernard Pyron grew up in the brush country southwest of San Antonio.
Bernard enlisted in the United States Air Force following his graduation from Somerset High School. He served honorably as an aircraft dispatcher for the 51st Fighter-Interceptor Wing at the height of the Korean War. During the late fifties and sixties, he made pottery and ceramic sculpture, and has an exhibition record as well as publications on American avant-garde ceramics. He obtained a PhD in experimental social psychology from the University of Wisconsin, was a professor of art and education at Whitewater State University in Wisconsin and then spent several years as a full-time researcher there. His studies included accuracy of interpersonal perception, cognitive styles, and perception of the man-made environment. He had a variety of writing experiences, including poetry, professional journal articles, manuscripts, and two books.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Harold Pyron and George Pyron, his sisters Mary Pyron Bush and Louise Pyron Poppe, and first wife Gail Gilbert Pyron. He is survived by his sons Blake Pyron (Jennifer), Mark Pyron (Margie), and Milton Pyron (Yolanda), his daughter Amy Pyron Hugo (Stephen), and second wife Marilynn Ludwig Pyron, as well as eleven grandchildren.
A grave side service followed by full military honors for Bernard Pyron will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 31, 2025, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Fort Leonard Wood.
