It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernard A. Tomko, who lost his courageous battle with cancer on May 9, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father and friend, he will be remembered for his quiet strength, sense of humor and the deep love he had for his family.

Bernard was born in Pottsville on December 28, 1961 to the late Helen (Dixon) Tomko and Bernard J Tomko of Frackville. He graduated from North Schuylkill High School in 1979, where he also studied auto mechanics at the North Vo-Tech. He was a life member of the Frackville Elks, and also a social member of the Frackville American Legion and Shenandoah Fish and Game.

Bernard was the husband of Pamela (Sweeney) Tomko of Zion Grove. Childhood sweetheart, they would have celebrated 43 years of marriage on July 9th.

In addition to his wife, Bernard is survived by his son Michael Tomko, his companion Trish O'Gurek and her son Michael Bieski. He is also survived by his brother Joseph Tomko (Kim) of Ephrata.

Bernard began his employment career as a Blackjack Dealer at Cesars Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. He later returned to Schuylkill County where he retired from the Department of Corrections, SCI Frackville, where he worked for 30 years. He was currently employed at Reading Anthracite where he was a purchasing agent.

Bernie spent his younger years as an avid dirt bike racer. He could always be found riding around the poles lines in Frackville and was a proud member of the Frackville Dirt Bike Rider Club. He went on to successfully race Maico and Yamaha motorcycles for the Speed Spot, Centralia, where he won the 1978 250cc Amateur District 6 Championship in Pennsylvania. He never lost his love of bikes, whether it was riding his Harley or collecting old dirt bikes.

Bernie will forever be remembered as a beautiful soul, who had the best laugh, and a remarkable ability to tell the best stories. He was incredibly loyal to his friends and family.

Please join the family for a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at the Frackville Elks, 3rd and Arch Streets, on Friday, May 16th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
