Bernice Jeanette Gilmore, 96 of Hamden, formerly of 560 Whalley Avenue New Haven, CT entered eternal rest on December 26, 2024. She was the beloved widow of George Gilmore.
Born in Guilford, Connecticut, on July 20, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Bernice Franklin Mabery and Whit William Mabery.
Ms. Gilmore devoted many years of her life to Harris and Tucker Day Care, where she worked as a Grandparent Aide. She was an active member of Grandparents on the Move and the Newhallville Senior Center at the Dixwell Q House. A woman of faith, she worshiped at Grace Chapel Church and Holy Trinity Church of God in Christ. She dedicated most of her life caring for her many grand, and great grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory three daughters: Linda Council, Aurora Grant (Rev. Leroy Grant Sr.) and Josephine Allick; two sisters; Bertha Jett and Evangelist Minecia Scott; 38 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; Two adopted daughters; Vanessa Thigpen and Valerie Barber; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; a special Cousin/friend Margie Staggers.
Ms. Gilmore was predeceased by her sons, Lawrence Mabery, Joseph Allick, Alfredo Allick and Murton Allick; brothers, David, Samuel, William and Robert Mabery; sisters; Marion Jackson, Isabelle Douglas, Whitena Mabery, Vivian Gilmore-Mullings, Elaine Mabery, Harriett Parks, and Fannie Mciver. Her former Spouse, Joseph Allick; A daughter-in-law, Lucille Mabery, 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Ms. Gilmore let everyone know that "I'm in the hands of the Lord and God's Got Me" and that is where she is today, we will forever miss you.
A memorial service celebrating her life and legacy will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025, at 6:00 P.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight Street New Haven, CT.
