Bernice A. Miller, a beloved matriarch and long-time resident of Bonner Springs, Kansas, peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the age of 84, in the comfort of her home.
Born on July 13, 1941, in Kansas City, Kansas, Bernice spent her formative years immersed in the vibrant community of the Wilder, Kansas area. She was a proud alumna of Bonner Springs High School, where she graduated with the Class of 1959. In February 1962, she united in marriage with Howard Miller, embarking on a devoted partnership that spanned 63 cherished years. Together, they established their home in Bonner Springs and lovingly raised their family, building a life rich in shared experiences and unwavering support.
Bernice dedicated her talents and warmth to various endeavors throughout her life. She was an integral part of the family business, serving with meticulous care and a friendly smile as a cashier for the Miller Auction Service. Her keen eye for detail and commitment to her community also shone through her work at the Bonner Springs Chieftain newspaper during the 1980s and 1990s. Beyond her professional pursuits, Bernice was celebrated for her culinary gifts; her kitchen was a place of joy, frequently filled with the inviting aromas of her renowned baked goods, cookies, and cakes, which were cherished by all who were fortunate enough to taste them. She was also actively involved in the Tiblow 4-H club, where she shared her wisdom and enthusiasm with younger generations. In her leisure time, Bernice found solace and adventure within the pages of western novels, a beloved pastime that offered her endless enjoyment.
Bernice was preceded in death by her loving parents Herman and Esther Gilbert and her sister Dolores Link. She leaves behind a profound legacy of love and family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Howard Miller, of the home. Her memory will be forever treasured by her son, Timothy A. Miller, and his wife, Lisa, of Bonner Springs, Kansas, and her daughter, Michelle Miller, also of Bonner Springs, Kansas. She is also survived by her brother, Harold Gilbert, of Florida; her sister, Dorothy Wanager, of Lee's Summit, Missouri; and her three adored grandchildren: Olivia, Allen, and Anna, who brought immeasurable happiness into her life.
A memorial visitation to celebrate Bernice's remarkable journey and enduring spirit will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Harrington Family Event Center in Bonner Springs. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions be directed to the City Union Mission, an organization close to Bernice's heart, reflecting her compassionate nature and commitment to helping others.
