Bernice Bailey Mott

Bernice Bailey Mott passed away on September 29, 2025, at the age of 80. A native of Des Allemands and resident of Jefferson Parish. She was known for her love of cooking and outspoken personality. Bernice worked offshore as a cook for Otto Candies Inc. for many years and later became the proud proprietor of Bernice's Cafe' Restaurant. She is survived by her loving and devoted children: Alfred Craig, Ron Christopher (Terry Fleming) and Tiffany Richelle Mott (Marcus Lee) of Hattiesburg, MS, grandchildren, Lynn Christopher Simmons (Brione) of Houston, TX and Marcus Malik Lee of Hattiesburg, MS and great-grandchildren, Blake and Blaise Simmons of Houston, TX. She also leaves to cherish her memories, siblings: Melba Rankin (Percy), Emily Diane Hall, Lloyd Griffin, III (the late Barbara), Bruce and Sonjia Griffin, Gail Howard (John), Louis Bailey, Mary Jane Triche, Patricia Lewis, Cheryl Puryear (Nathaniel), Theresa Dabon, Easter Simoneaux and Sonya Smith, aunts: Geraldine Dorsey Hill and Marguerite Dorsey of New Jersey, godchildren: Wilma Lucas, Donna Simmons, Aline Williams Evers, Kayla Morris-Garcia, Antionette Ardion and Emelda Blanco, her devoted friend & companion Joseph Jones, best friend Barbara Johnson, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and her grandpuppie, Jericho. She is preceded in death by her parents, Violet H. Griffin (Lloyd, Jr.) and Lester Bailey, Sr., siblings: Katherine Faye Johnson (Louis), Brenda Haynes, Beverly Simmons (Walter) and Lester Bailey, Jr. Family, friends, members of Mt. Zion B.C.-Ama, First Baptist Church of Paradis, Antioch B.C., Des Allemands, neighboring churches, friends & customers of Jae Flem Cafe' are invited to attend Bernice's Celebration of Life Service on Friday, October 10, 2025, for 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 10867 River Road Ama, LA. Visitation/viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. until service time only. Pastor Nichelle Burt-Conerly, officiating, and Rev. Sha'Teek A. Nobles, Host Pastor of Mt. Zion B.C. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Ama.
