Bernice J. Postlewait, 93, of
Spokane, WA, passed away on June 3, 2025, at Fields Senior Living.
She was born on January 11, 1932, in Colville, WA, to Irvin and Mary Knox. Bernice graduated from Medical Lake High School in 1949. Later that year, on October 16, she married Don Postlewait in Spokane. Together, they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage and raised six children.
Bernice worked as a telephone operator and later as the head cook at East Valley Junior High, but her greatest role was that of a devoted homemaker. She loved her family deeply and was known for her warm hospitality-always cooking, feeding others, and making people feel welcome. She also enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, and traveling to visit her children and grandchildren.
Some of her favorite memories included visiting Alaska, celebrating her and Don's 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii, and traveling to New Zealand to visit their son Jim and his family.
Bernice's life was marked by a deep and authentic interest in people, both friends and strangers. She learned and remembered their stories, their family ties, and even their birthdays! This connection, especially with her own family, was one of her greatest joys.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Don. She is survived by all six of her children and their spouses, along with 25 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at Hennessey Funeral Home on Division Street on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Bernice will be laid to rest at West Greenwood Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. A remembrance gathering will follow at CenterPlace Regional Event Center, 2426 N. Discovery Place, Spokane Valley, WA 99216, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
