Berta Nosti

Berta Nosti, 88 of Jackson passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at The Manor at Freehold. Born and raised in Havana, Cuba she lived in Madrid for 5 years before moving to North Bergen, USA in 1974 then Jackson, NJ in 2001. She earned her degree in accounting from Havana University, Cuba and then went on to become a CPA. Even though Berta prioritized her education overall, she knew how to have fun and spent her free time listening to bands like the Beatles, learning to speak English, and immersing herself in American Culture. She was well versed and was active in local politics and causes. In the United States, Berta worked for many well-known companies such as EF Hutton, Loeb Rhoades, and retired from Dean Witter Morgan Stanley, NYC as a vice president in Futures in 2001 after 20 years with the company. Berta didn't just love finance or her job, but she created a community for those who immigrated to the United States, as well as mentored some of her colleagues and empowered them to succeed as she had. She loved traveling to Europe, cruises and small weekend getaways with her family and close friends. She loved to dance and was a part of Fomento Dance Club in Union City. She enjoyed cooking being most known for her black beans and rice, reading especially John Grisham and James Patterson novels and tending to her rose garden. Berta exemplified being a survivor after her brain aneurysm and worked hard to get back to her job at the World Trade Center. She was a great and loyal friend, whether it was helping with a meal or always listening to names of her friends being read for the 911 Memorial, she honored her friendships. She proved that age is only a state of mind as she grew to love emailing her family in Cuba and instant messaging her grandchildren in her 80's. Berta is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Mario Nosti in 2013. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth & Joe Cuomo (whom she claimed as her own son), 3 grandchildren and their spouses: Amanda & James, Joe II & Melany and Mike & Daylene. Visitation is Sunday 2-5 pm at Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Road, Manchester. Burial is private.
