Bessie McCardle left this world on February 20, 2025, after 82 fulfilling years. Born on August 26, 1942, in the quaint town of Kingwood, WV, Bessie grew to be a pillar of strength and joy in her community. She departed peacefully in Morgantown, WV, surrounded by the love of her family.
The daughter of Gilbert Henry Hoover and Katherine Elsie Elbon, both of whom predeceased her, Bessie inherited a foundation of resilience and compassion that marked her entire life. Bessie's beloved husband, Wayne McCardle, had preceded her in passing, and she is now reunited with him, as well as her departed siblings, Kay Marie Hoover and Clark Hoover.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Leslie Brown (Ed) of Barrackville, WV; Karen Mason (Bob) of Reedsville, WV; Brenda Moore of Westover, WV; Nancy Webster (James) of Idaho; Roberta Poling of Terra Alta, WV; Robert Adams (Brenda) of Westover, WV; and Allen Adams of Morgantown, WV. Her sister, Mary Kay Hoover, will hold the remembrance of Bessie close to her heart, as will her community of friends and extended family.
Bessie's legacy extends through her grandchildren, Joseph Gray (Cassie), Samantha Gray (Hunter), Katheryn Boone (Nathan), Robert Matthew Adams (Tiffany), Joshua Moore, Kayla Satterfield, Scott Rhodes, Chris Rhodes, Timothy Rhodes, Heather Webster, Kelly Webster, Beverly Collins (Chris), Stacy Roberts (Daniel), Kim Weaver (Scott), Henry Metz, Jr., Tiffany Bee (Don), and Shelby Adams, along with her great-grandchildren. While she and her family mourn the loss of a bright life, her grandchild Shannon Adams, who predeceased her, they take comfort in knowing that the two are now together again.
Bessie's professional life was just as impactful as her family life; she devoted many years of service as a bank teller at Huntington Bank, demonstrating her reliability and care to all who walked through the bank's doors. Her commitment to the community shone brightly in her involvement with the Westover VFW Ladies Auxiliary #9916, where she found camaraderie and purpose in serving others.
An enthusiast of Hallmark movies, Bessie found great joy and relaxation in the heartwarming tales and happy endings that mirrored her optimistic outlook on life.
