Betty Booraem Obituary

Betty H. Booraem, age 83, wife of the late Charles H. Booraem, of Limerick, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. Born on July 29, 1942, in Passaic, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Ethel (Cook) Haage.
Betty was a graduate of Teaneck High School and went on to earn her bachelor's degree in education from Cedar Crest College. She began her professional life as an elementary school teacher at Barkley Elementary School in Phoenixville, before leaving the workforce for a decade to raise her own children.
Betty re-entered the workforce driving a school bus for 19 years for Phoenixville Area School District. During those years she also owned and operated Valley Forge Cleaning Service and was a Mary Kay consultant. It was not uncommon to see Betty driving her bus wearing a skirt and heels, with a fully made-up face. Betty went on to retire from The Vanguard Group in 2000 and began to travel the country.
Betty was introduced to camping shortly after marrying Charlie. This became one of her favorite activities. For 50 years, her happy place was in whatever RV they owned. Every family vacation involved a camping trip with friends of her children, grandchildren, a random trip to the hardware store, and always some entertaining stories that Betty didn't always appreciate right away. Betty loved the outdoors - hiking, biking, and walking - and she cherished traveling across the United States, especially to her beloved Maine. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, baking, and watching baseball. In recent years, she became a fierce and frequent player of Skip-Bo, where she rarely lost (and if she did, she claimed it was only because someone cheated).
Betty's superpower in life was her compassion for others. Her home (and her RV) were always filled with people - her children's friends, her co-workers, or fellow campers. No one stayed a stranger to Betty for long - they all became family.
A woman of many talents, Betty sang in several church choirs and was a gifted pianist and organist, sharing her love of music by teaching others. She volunteered her time with organizations including the East Pikeland Police Department, Christian Concern Communities, Citizens Advocacy of Chester County, and Project Help, often focusing on supporting and advocating for the elderly - a population she cared for with tenderness and respect.
Betty loved to bake. Her legendary cinnamon rolls at Christmas have caused family arguments, her chocolate chip cookies were always a reason to visit, and her chocolate chip sour cream cake was always a fan favorite.
Betty is survived by five children: Glenn, husband of Pam Booraem; Edgar Gottshall; Scott, husband of Jan Booraem; Sumiko Booraem; and Heather, wife of Jason Harmon; eleven grandchildren: Jonathan, Caroline (A.J.), Amanda, Piper, Ryan, Cindy (Matt), Alexia, Julian, Shawna (Lance), Shannon, and Ian; six great-grandchildren: Ember, Bentley, Lincoln, Libby, Matthew, and MacKenzie; and her beloved dog, Snoopy. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carol J. Rounds.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life at St. Peter's Pikeland United Church of Christ, 1193 Clover Mill Road, Chester Springs, PA, on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Douglas Hanson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends will be received from 9:30-11:00 AM in the church on Saturday morning. As a part of our celebration, we invite you to wear bright and cheerful colors because Betty enjoyed wearing these colors herself.
