Betty Curnow, age 101, of Netcong, New Jersey, died on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at St. Clare's Hospital in Dover, New Jersey.
Betty was born and raised in Netcong, New Jersey to the late Clarence and Mary Eva O'Brien. She spent her whole life in Netcong, residing there for 101 years. Betty graduated from Netcong High School and was the last living of her class of 1940. After graduation, Betty married the love of her life, William on July 21, 1942. The pair went on to have a 36 year marriage. Betty was a wonderful homemaker who meticulously cared for her family. She also worked as an Office Clerk for Square Deal Fuels for 20 years.
Betty was an extremely community focused individual. She was a member of Stanhope United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Woman's Club for 50 years and the past Treasurer of the Church's Sunday School. She made it a personal mission to share kindness and love with her fellow church members, past and present. She was also a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and a Charter Member of the original Netcong Senior Citizens Club.
Betty found joy in the arts of knitting and crochet, she would often donate the vests, hats, and scarves she crafted to Merchant Marines. She enjoyed completing jigsaw puzzles and loved indoor and outdoor plants- especially lilacs.
She is preceded in death by her husband William Curnow and her Daughter in Law, Barbara Curnow.
She is survived by two sons, Gary William Curnow of Stanhope, NJ and Donald Curnow (Sherry) of Bangor, PA; two grandchildren, Donald Curnow and Nicole Vanderhoof; her great grandchildren: Steven, Andrew, Travis, Ben, Haley, Megan, and Leah; one great-great grandchild Ivy; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Morgan Funeral Home, 31 Main St., Netcong, NJ 07857. A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, doors open at 9:30AM. Burial will follow at Stanhope Union Cemetery.
