Betty Jean Downs, 69 of Walterboro, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
Born on April 16, 1956 in Ocala, Florida, she was a daughter of Ottie and Gene Odom.
Betty, a loving and devoted woman whose strength and compassion touched everyone she met, passed away on September 30, 2025. She was a kindhearted soul who overcame many trials throughout her life, always meeting challenges with quiet resilience and unwavering faith. After the passing of her mother, she found a deep and life-changing relationship with Jesus- one that guided her steps and shaped the gentle, generous spirit she shared with others. A proud member of Edisto Pentecostal Holiness Church, she loved singing in the church choir and lifting her voice in worship. Some of her happiest moments were spent singing on the porch, surrounded by nature and the peace of home.
Family was the center of her heart. She cherished every moment with her loved ones and especially delighted in playing with her grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy. She never met a stranger- her warmth, kindness, and welcoming smile made everyone feel like family.
She will be remembered for her good heart, her faith, her unwavering love, and the beautiful way she made others feel seen and cared for.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Duane and Larry Odom.
Betty is survived by her sons and grandchildren: Devan (Destiny, Sophia, Gracie, Jayden, Kinsley, Paisley, Grace, Oaklynn) and Kevin Phillips (Maci, Ava).
The family will receive friends for the service on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Edisto P. H. Church, 24576 Augusta Hwy. in Cottageville South Carolina.
