Betty Lou Dubbs, 83, of Julian, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born on January 17, 1942, in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Paul H. and Mildred K. (Herr) Jones. On June 18, 1960, in Bellefonte, she married the love of her life, Eugene E. Dubbs, who preceded her in death on February 28, 2019.
A proud graduate of Bellefonte Area High School, Class of 1960, Betty Lou devoted her life to creating a warm and loving home for her family. She worked at Penn State World Campus of Continuing Education, retiring in 2000 after many years of service. She was a faithful member of Hannah United Methodist Church in Port Matilda.
Betty Lou and Gene shared a beautiful life together - they were truly inseparable. Wherever one went, the other was close by. They were always happiest in each other's company.
Betty Lou loved the Centre County Grange Fair, tending to her flower gardens, watching birds and the wildlife outside her window, and taking her beloved dog, Henry, for walks. She kept an immaculate home and could always find a load of laundry to wash. A talented tole painter, she created many beautiful pieces that her family will cherish for years to come. She would paint scenic paintings on old antiques, rocks, saw blades, and just about anything else if you asked.
Betty Lou loved to travel. She often made trips to Connecticut to visit her grandchildren, and if someone needed a companion for a road trip, she was always the first to volunteer. It didn't matter where the destination was - she simply enjoyed the journey.
An excellent cook, Betty Lou was especially known for her delicious pies and her Sunday meatloaf dinners. Sundays were her favorite day - beginning with church and ending with the whole family gathered around the table. Her family meant everything to her, and she treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Over the years, she also enjoyed canning and making maple syrup.
Betty Lou is survived by her four children: Eugene E. "JR" Dubbs, Jr. and his wife, Rochelle, of Julian; Denise M. Zelznick and her husband, Steve, of Centre Hall; and Regina L. Lyons and her husband, Scott, of Bellefonte. She was blessed with eight grandchildren - Rylie Dubbs, Alex Dubbs, Brooke Gertz (Josh), Stephen Zelznick III, Cody Lyons (Ellie), Dillyn Lyons, Landen Lose, and Seth Lose (Makayla) - and nine great-grandchildren: Reese, Easton, Tripp, Rhett, Cheyanne, Ava, Kendal, Maddy, and Kohen.
She is also survived by two brothers, Paul Jones of Bellefonte and John Jones of Port Matilda. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty Lou was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa L. Lose, who passed away on May 5, 1995.
In accordance with Betty Lou's wishes, all services will be private. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Oakridge Cemetery.
