Betty Jean LaBar

POTSDAM – Betty Jean LaBar, 88, passed away Monday, July 14, 2025 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a brief illness.
Betty was born in Moira, New York on June 16, 1937, the daughter of the late Amos and Caroline (St. Hilaire) White. She graduated from Canton High School and studied accounting and bookkeeping at BOCES. On April 10, 1956, she married Raymond C. LaBar at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hopkinton with Rev. O'Dett, celebrating. Raymond predeceased him on February 9, 2013.
Betty first worked for M.H. Fishman Company in Potsdam before working as the manager at the Plaid Stamp Store in Potsdam for 10 years. She later worked as an office manager for Dr. Adist Dental Office and later for the 1st National Bank in Potsdam for 11 years prior to her retirement in 1999. She was a member of the Knapps Station Community Church and attended Christ Community Church in New Smyrna Beach, Florida during the winter months. Betty loved cooking, reading Amish books, shopping, her dog, and greatly enjoyed visiting with people.
Betty is survived by her longtime companion, Robert Jones; her foster daughter, Judy Hoover of Washington and her daughter, Elizabeth of Pennsylvania; her brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Burbie White of Parishville; her nieces and nephews, David (Tina) Lindsay, Rosemarie (Darrel) Selman, Dale (Autumn) Lindsay, Jai (Melonie) Lindsay, Ronnie Lindsay, Rebecca Trimm, Mike White, and Tina (John) Wright; and their families.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, twins Joan and John White at birth, Lawrence White, and Janet (David) Lindsay.
Friends may call on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at the Knapps Station Community Church beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 12:00 PM, followed by a luncheon at the church social hall. Burial will be held privately in Fairview Cemetery, Parishville.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider memorial contributions to be made to the Knapps Station Community Church or Parishville Fire Department.
