Betty Jane Lash

Betty Jane Lash, 78, of Mattoon, IL, formerly of Arcola, IL, passed away at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main St., Arcola, IL. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.

Betty was born on December 16, 1946 in Arcola, IL. She was a daughter of James W. and Mary Anna (Sampson) Cummings.

She is survived by two children, William David Lash and his wife Jennifer Langworthy of Rockford, IL, and Deborah Christine Abbott of Charleston, IL, three grandchildren, Alyssa Christine Perry of Nashville, TN, Chris W. Abbott and William G. Abbott both of Charleston, IL, two great grandchildren, Erissa Majane Cunningham, and Bryerlee Abbott, three siblings, Lloyd A. Cummings and his wife Mary of Georgia, Wilma Durbin of Sullivan, IL, and David Cummings and his wife Mariko of Cincinnati, OH, a brother-in-law, Maury Ordner of Effingham, IL and a cousin, Floyd Hillard and his wife Merry of Savannah, GA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Ruth Ordner.

Betty dedicated over 30 years of her life working at General Electric until her retirement.

Betty had a passion for reading. She also took great interest in genealogy, delighting in the discovery of her family’s Scottish heritage. Betty enjoyed shopping and had a keen eye for collecting unique items, particularly fiesta ware and nutcrackers.
