Betty McCoy, age 87, of Columbus Ohio, passed away on May 21, 2025, with family at her side. Born on June 30, 1937, in Columbus, Ohio, Betty’s life was a tapestry woven with threads of love, laughter, and kindness.
She was a member of Benfield Church of Christ, where she poured her kindness into serving her community. Former member of Obetz Christian Church. Her dedication was evident through her tireless volunteer work at USEP -United Service for Effective Parenting where her generous spirit touched countless lives. She was a proud graduate of Marion Franklin High School, class of 1956. Betty worked at Westinghouse and Ohio Bell, which later became known as AT&T. Her diligent spirit and unwavering work ethic became hallmarks of her character, traits admired by all who knew her.
Betty delighted in card games, particularly Euchre and Kings on the Corner, drawing family and friends together around the table for lively competitions and laughter. She loved treating herself to regular trips to Dairy Queen. Betty also looked forward to the Marion Franklin High School gatherings held every third Wednesday at Portside Café, a cherished occasion that brought old friends and nostalgic stories back to life. Betty also loved the Ohio State Buckeyes and was an avid fan.
She is preceded in death by her former husbands, Patrick Barry and Clint McCoy, parents, Lee and Margaret Crabtree; brothers, Bud, Jerry, and Larry Crabtree; her niece, Tracy Crabtree, and her stepdaughter, Jeanie McCoy. Betty is survived by her children, Christina (Douglas) Barry-Merz, Patrick (Kim) Barry, Lorie Wylie, and Robert Barry, her uncle Pete (Harriet) Brust; along with 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.; sisters, Virginia Buccilla, Connie Langley and Judy (Tom) Huston; brother Rodney Crabtree, as well as sisters-in-law, Nancy Crabtree, Rita Crabtree, and Paula Schaedel.
Betty will be missed by her family and others who had the privilege of knowing her. “Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted,” Matthew 5:4.
Family will receive friends Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 4 - 7 pm at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St. Columbus, Ohio where service will be held Friday, May 30, 2025, at 10:00 am with Rev. Steve Sherrod and Rev. David Sherrod officiating. Interment to follow at Obetz Cemetery in Obetz, Ohio. Family wished to thank Gentiva Hospice for the care provided.
