Betty Ruth Murphy, 95, of 5622 Donna Dr., passed away on September 3, 2025, at her daughter's home in Southaven, Mississippi.
She was born on February 15, 1930, in Sharondale, Kentucky, the daughter of Landon and Elizabeth (Lethgo) Donley.
Betty graduated from Magnolia High School in Matewan, West Virginia, class of 1947. She received her BA Degree in Elementary Education at the University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky. She went on to receive her masters degree from Pennsylvania Western University in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. Most of her teaching career was done in Ashtabula in the Buckeye Local Schools District. She taught at Braden Middle School until Ridgeview was built, and spent the remainder of her career at that location teaching fourth grade. She loved working with children and was an excellent educator.
Betty enjoyed reading her Bible daily. She was a faithful member of the Conneaut Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school for many years.
Betty enjoyed doing many kinds of crafts. She loved crocheting, quilting, sewing, counted cross stitch, plastic canvas work, painting, working jigsaw puzzles, and reading several books at a time. Betty loved singing with her beautiful alto voice and playing the piano. She also was an excellent cook.
Betty's greatest joy was her family. She was a wonderful mother to her two children and an adoring wife to her husband, Gene. After just eight days apart, she was reunited with the love of her life, Eugene, who passed away on August 26, 2025. The couple had recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on July 14. Together they built a life filled with faith, love, and devotion to one another.
Left to cherish the memories of Betty are her children Betty Jean "Beegie" Murphy and Darrell Ricky "Rick" (Dorinda) Murphy, and many nieces and nephews.
Aside from Eugene, Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Charles Ray "Chay" Donley, Dorothy Faye (Wirt) Cook, and William Robert "Bobby" Donley.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 12 PM with the minister Tim Kraus officiating. A calling hour will be held from 11 AM until the time of service at Conneaut Church of Christ, 448 Main St., Conneaut, OH 44030. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville, Ohio.
Funeral arrangements were trusted to Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave. Ashtabula, OH 44004. Online obituary and condolences can be made at www.ducro.com. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Betty, please visit our floral store.
