Betty J. Newman, 94, of Carmi passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi. She was born in Evansville, IN on August 25, 1931, the daughter of Harry and Irene (Whisenhunt) Dillinger. Betty married Ralph Joseph Newman in March of 1973. She was a member of the New Beginnings Church of God. She loved to spend time with her friends and family.
Betty is survived by her three children, Sheryl (Steve) Barker of McLeansboro, IL, Randy (Alice) Hutchison of Carmi, IL, and Kevin (June) Hutchison of Murphy, NC; stepdaughter, Martha Jo Reddick of Albany, GA; grandchildren, Shane (Lisa) Barker, Shawn (Staci) Barker, Lindsey (Adam) Gish, Drew Hutchison, Courtney Hutchison; step-grandchildren Jessica Pitre, Rebecca Pitre, Mary (Ronald) Bernardine, Mandy Basko, Brittany (Mario) Vega, and Brandon (Dani) Cashatt; eleven great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband and father of her children, James Cordell Hutchison, husband, Joe Newman; three siblings, Bob Dillinger, Melvin Dillinger, and Lorene Pollard; and stepdaughter, Mary Jane Pitre.
Funeral services for Betty J. Newman, 94, of Carmi will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025 at New Beginnings Church of God in Carmi. Burial will follow in Kuykendall Cemetery in Carmi. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025 at New Beginnings Church of God in Carmi from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to New Beginning Church of God in Carmi and will be accepted at the church or by mail to 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821.
